It’s hard to follow yesterday’s Facebook tribute to Susan Bass Levin, esteemed former mayor of Cherry Hill and all-around mover and shaker, but as I considered my teenage quest for wisdom, I thought of a source I assumed had become obsolete, the newspaper column, Dear Abby. With very little research, I found the online column alive and kicking. It’s now written by Jeanne Phillips, daughter of the original advice columnist, Pauline Esther Friedman Phillips (1921-2013). Since 1956, this advice column has been doling out wry, witty, and even-handed answers to queries of all stripes.
Just yesterday, the Huffington Post ran a recap titled, “‘Dear Abby’ Offers Perfect Response To Mother Of A Queer Teen”. According to UExpress, Abby has more than 110 million worldwide readers! You might say she was the mother of all blogs, and in that spirit, I’m moving these posts here, to my own neglected blog — one I’ve jokingly referred to as my ‘secret blog’ … but no more!
