After first semester teaching at Rutgers . . .

Well, as much as I realize that some people teach full time and write books, I’m not one of those people. First of all, when I teach even one course (not to mention two sections, in a new university, with all new systems and rules) I take over the entire third floor studio with my stacks of papers and books, notes and plans. The Alice Book and my poetry flee in horror. Um, I shove them gracefully to the side. There’s no screaming. And, thanks to my wonderful poetry workshop (Hayden, Doris, Mary, you rock) I still have a lifeline every few weeks. And my 450-page journal.

Sigh. But it is sooooo good to be back. Christmas tree is up, cookies baked, stacks of poems ready for ordering, and . . . Jenn’s able to help for a couple weeks in January on the Alice Book, which I plan to finish this winter. Yes, Mom. Your unfinished daughter will finish this one project. Promise.
